Everyday brings more astonishment for me as I whip through the media to get my bearings. I mean there are people in this world who are actually on Hamas’ side in the Middle East war, as war is what it is now. Every civilized country in the world has condemned this group as a terrorist outfit of the first rank, but let them fire rockets at Israel endlessly and then hide behind women and children for the inevitable retaliation, and the world stands on its head pointing at Israel, even or should I say especially that shameless organization that counts Pakistan, Libya and Cuba on its Human Rights committee, The UN.
I can see the PR company hired by Hamas scratching their heads in wonderment that this splendid turn of events happened again for their client, as they were a bit worried that they may have overplayed their hand this time. But no, the world falls over itself to call this another holocaust against the Palestinians.
What would you have Israel do? They have not occupied Gaza since 2005, and even left the Gazians 5000 green houses as a sign of good faith. Hamas tore them down of course. They offered Gaza to the Egyptians along with the Sinai, no takers. Israel has offered Gaza to every Middle East country but no one wants that poisonous place even for free.
Hamas has spent billions on tunnels that could have gone for housing or schools, but that would be too reasonable. Hamas says they must build tunnels because of the blockade, but it is only there to stop them rearming with Iranian rockets and other armament. Prove itself (Hamas) peaceful and they all could be partners. I am sure Israel has better things to do than this every few years. Who would want this?
Stalin used to refer to “Useful idiots”, those people who would defend Russia in the West despite its atrocities no matter how dreadful, and so it seems those useful idiots still abound.
What country on earth phones up a house to alert them that they will be destroyed in 5 minutes, so get out? How many Hamas rockets have gone astray and killed their own? What would you do if you were Israel with a neighbour who refuses to admit your right to existence and whose only point is hate?
Can one imagine what the schools of Gaza teach on a daily basis, I am sure it is not love thy neighbour. And as far as I know the Gay Pride parade is cancelled again. One forgets that there is a huge peace movement in Israel with many critics of the government’s tactics. These sorts of things are allowed in democracies, but I need hardly add, not in places like Gaza.
Even the West Bank leader Mr. Abbas thinks that Hamas is mad to shoot rockets at Israel, “What are they trying to achieve?” We will never know what those citizens trapped in Gaza really think as they dare not voice anything but the Hamas line. I wonder how many parents cheered when the news was announced about freedom fighters sending missiles into Israel?
