I am usually at the Y gym by 7:30 most mornings, just to get it out of the way. I have never really liked exercising but there is so much proof of what happens when you don’t.

A dear American friend who is always kidding me about Canada, sent a different sort of e-mail yesterday. As I said, he usually passes along stories about how boring Canadians are, etc.
I was delighted to be asked to step into the large black oxfords of the Major today and will do my level best to make him proud of me.
Today is the first day of the teacher’s rolling strike here in BC. Each day this week a certain number of targeted districts will have their schools shut down.
I simply cannot go on. The thought of trying to pound out a Raving most days is too hard on my sensitive nature and can only coarsen my silky soul. I am simply not made for the day to day jousting this type of writing requires and would rather just concentrate on my weekly musings for the Sunday column.
I stared at the cats and they stared back with that sort of insolence I have never appreciated. They have the temerity to stand before their better and endeavour to make me feel unwelcome in my own house.
