An old but still young friend passed away last night. He admitted that he had frittered away a great deal of life on very little, wasting it as he said. Almost his last words were, “It has gone by so quickly.”
He was a fine fellow and a talented musician, but he refused to grow up. The rest of us were almost jealous of him as he appeared so unconcerned with jobs, mortgages and planning for the future.
He had two sons from an unhappy and brief marriage, that were his everything and for that I am glad.
I just wish he had stopped smoking sooner.
We had a marvellous time in the Whiskey Sours band in the Yorkville of the sixties. He was our base guitar.
Goodbye my friend.
He was 66.
