For years I have been receiving juice glasses that have the initials F.U. engraved on each one. I have wondered, and not quietly, why someone would go to all that trouble just to swear at me.
Finally this year when they arrived again, one of my grandsons Hortense, the one with the cow-lick and squinty eyes, told me the truth. After a little research he discovered that they actually originated at an obscure centre of higher learning somewhere in the arctic called Frontier University. They might have said !! A short note nicely tucked into the box of glasses would have assuaged my outrage over all this time.
Speaking of initials, in my misspent youth L.O.L. meant Little Old Lady. How things change eh?
