I just happened to notice that yesterday was the anniversary of the death of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of Henry VIII. How sad as we celebrated Queen Victoria day, the first long weekend holiday of our short summer.

Anne played her cards wrong to be sure. Unlike her sister Mary Boleyn, who was happy to be just Henry’s concubine, Anne insisted upon marriage with no nooky before the ceremony on the understanding that she would “produce” a royal son. In keeping Henry’s passion on the boil, she became the one responsible for the English part of the Reformation which is something when one remembers that she was only on the throne for a thousand days.

No “nooky” produced the Church of England, but cost Anne her head. Is there a lesson there? When in doubt, nooky?
