The club is known for its forthright debates and so it was yesterday. Many of us are overjoyed to see our future king amongst us, albeit in Winnipeg which is as close as they will come to Victoria. Nevertheless we are very proud that Prince Charles and his consort are in our country.

However there are those at our dear club who seem to take exception to the royals as an example of useless lives that are simply anachronisms left over from another age. I cannot say who led this breakaway section (Mr Smallpiece) but needless to say the rest of us certainly disagree.

I will not debate our right to have a Constitutional Monarchy rather than a republic, but I would say that I am very proud of the Royal family. As an example, when our MPs sent Canada’s armed forces into Afghanistan for twelve years, not one of their sons or daughters that I am aware of, served there. Yet every single Royal family member, has served in the British Armed forces at one time or another, including the Queen.

Credit where credit is due I think.

From my point of view I cannot see how we can move forward with anything, as no doubt mass marches will take place at the first hint of construction.
